PhD in Digital Media Arts
The Department of Science and Technology (DCeT) of the Open University in association with the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve created the Doctoral Program in Media-Digital Art (DMAD) to operate in a mixed regime, presential and e-learning. This program is a pioneer in Portugal in the inter, multi and transdisciplinary area emerging from the digital medium-art, and at the international panorama it is the first experience at a doctoral level to operate in a mixed regime.
Digital-art is defined here as the art that uses digital media technology as a process (medium) and/or as a product (final result) where technology constitutes a tool at the service of the creativity (artistic, cultural, educational, etc.) or as an engine for innovation in the creation of new forms and aesthetic discourses that exploit the informative, sensorial and interventional expressiveness of multimedia contents. The PhD in Media-Digital Art is a 3rd cycle degree that gives the Doctor’s Degree to the students who obtain approval in the curricular part and in the their thesis. Students who obtain only approval in the curricular part will receive the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Media-Digital Art.

PhD in Literature
The PhD in Literature is a third cycle degree offered by the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve, which aims to provide a deepening and extension of theoretical knowledge, methodology and its application in the scientific field of Literature.
This PhD is an advanced training for basic and applied research in the scientific field of Literature, providing students with the capacity, in a knowledge-based society, to promote in technological and/or professional context technological progress, social or cultural.
