PhD IN MEDIA DIGITAL-ART
The Department of Science and Technology (DCeT) of the Open University in association with the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve created the Doctoral Program in Media-Digital Art (DMAD) to operate in a mixed regime, in presence and e-learning. This program is a pioneer in Portugal in the inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary area emerging from the digital medium-art, and at the international panorama it is the first experience at a doctoral level to operate in a mixed regime.
Digital art is the art that makes use of digital media technology either as process (medium) and/or as product (result). It is the art in which technology constitutes either a tool at the service of the creativity (artistic, cultural, educational, etc.), or an engine for innovation in the creation of new forms and aesthetic discourses to explore the informative, sensorial and interventional expressiveness of multimedia contents. The PhD in Media-Digital Art is a 3rd cycle degree that gives the Doctor’s Degree to the students who obtain approval in the curricular part and in their theses. Students who obtain only approval in the curricular part will receive the Diploma of Advanced Studies in Media-Digital Art.
