Brief CV: Carlos Castilho Pais has a Degree in Modern Languages and Literature from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (recognition, 1985) and a PhD in Portuguese Studies from Universidade Aberta (2000). He taught at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre and at Universidade Aberta.

Research Interests: He has devoted his scientific research – published in Portugal and abroad (Spain, France, Brazil) – to the study of translation and to communication in general. He is currently a member of the Centre for Research in Arts and Communication (at Universidade Aberta – University of Algarve). As a result of his research, he published, among other works, the first anthology about translation in Portugal (Diachronic Theory of Portuguese Translation – Anthology (15th – 20th centuries), Lisbon, Universidade Aberta, 1997). He was the first president of the Iberian Association for Translation and Interpreting Studies (AIETI).

Additional Information: Among other positions held at Universidade Aberta, he was the President of the Pedagogical Council (2016-2018); he is part of the scientific committees of the journals Hermeneus, revista de la Facultad de Traducción e Interpretación da Universidad de Valladolid, MONTI (Monografías de Traducción e Interpretación) of the University of Alicante, Cadernos de Traducción of the Santa Catarina University (Brazil).
