MARIA EUGÉNIA VASQUES
Brief CV: EEugénia Vasques was born in Coimbra in 1948. She lived and studied in Paris, between 1970 and 1975, where she attended the University of Paris VIII. After returning to Portugal, she joined the National Conservatory, where she completed the Actors/Stage Directors Training Course (1980). She continued her studies at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (Modern Languages and Literatures//Portuguese-French, 1985). In 1992, she earned a PhD in Hispanic Language and Literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, with equivalence to Portuguese Studies by Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She was a Theatre critic at the weekly newspaper Expresso, between 1985-2001, and she collaborates with several magazines. She is a Coordinator Professor [Full Professor] at the Theatre and Film School/Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, the former Theater School of the National Conservatory. She is a Member of the Scientific Council and a member of the Library Council. She is also a Professor in the Arts PhD (University of Lisbon/ESTC).
Research Interests: She has collaborated with Cultural institutions, namely the Ministry of Culture/State Office for Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science and several other bodies (National Reading Plan, etc.). She has also taken part in Theater Awards juries (SPA – Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores [Portuguese Authors Society], TEC – Teatro Experimental de Cascais [Cascais Experimental Theatre], etc.) and has collaborated with projects in the field of theatrical or artistic pedagogy. She is a Researcher at the Centre for Research in Arts and Communication (University of Algarve). She is a board member of the Artistic Education UNESCO Club.
