Brief CV: Isabel Carvalho has a degree in Architecture from School of Arts of Porto (ESAP 2001), postgraduate degree in Town Planning, Environment and Urban Design from Faculties of Architecture (FAUP) and Engineering (FEUP), Porto University (2004) and a postgraduate degree in Town Management from Universidade Moderna do Porto and Urban Research and Intervention Centers (2003). She earned her PhD in Digital Media Arts from Department of Science and Technology, Universidade Aberta, Lisbon, and College of Humanities and Social Sciences, UAlg/University of Algarve (2016), with the thesis “Média-Arte Locativa e Mapeamentos Dinâmicos na Compreensão de Fluxos Urbanos. O contributo do dispositivo móvel no exercício do caminhar como prática artística”. She was post-doctoral researcher in computer animation at National Centre for Computer Animation, Faculty of Media and Communication, Bournemouth University, UK (2018-2019).
In 2019, her research project “Gender in Map – women empowerment in planning and urban development” was selected for funding in the 1st Stimulus Contest for the Scientific and Individual Employment of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
Research Interests: She develops research in collaborative mapping processes and data visualization. The focus of her research and artistic practice is the interaction between people, urban space and technology. She explores different processes of appropriation and apprehension of urban spaces, part of them developed with the community in a collaborative and intergenerational way.
