JOÃO MINHOTO MARQUES
Brief CV: João Minhoto Marques has a Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (Portuguese and French Studies) from the Lisbon School of Arts and Humanities (1989) and a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Portuguese Literature (1994) from the same University. He earned his PhD in Literature (specializing in Contemporary Portuguese Literature) from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve in 2002. Between 1990 and 1993 he was a research fellow at the Institute of Portuguese Language and Culture (ICALP), during which time he was part of the team in charge of creating the Dictionary of Contemporary Portuguese Language, at the Institute of Lexicology and Lexicography of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. He is a professor at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, at the University of Algarve, since 1993.
He has been the Sub-Director (2015-2016) and the Director of the Department of Arts and Humanities (2016-2017) in this Faculty. He is currently the Coordinator of the Center for Training and Permanent Upgrading of the University of Algarve (CeFAP) and Vice-President of the Faculty Scientific Board. Since 2011, he has also been the Sub-Director of the PhD in Literature and, since 2010, he has been a member of the jury for the Portuguese language component in the university entrance examination for applicants above 23 years old.
Aiming at scientific dissemination in the general community, he organized several free literature courses, in collaboration with the municipal libraries of Faro (2014), Loulé (2015) and Olhão (2017).
Research Interests: His research has focused on the reception and contours of the bucolic in modern and contemporary Portuguese literature. Over the last few years, he has also devoted himself to the study and edition of Cândido Guerreiro’s work, having already printed two volumes (in 2013 and 2014) of the poet’s Complete Works. At the moment, he is editing the third volume for the City Council of Loulé. The publication of a volume of letters by the same Author is also planned.
