PEDRO CABRAL SANTO
Brief CV: Pedro Cabral Santo studied Painting and Sculpture at the Faculties of Fine Arts in Lisbon and Porto and has a degree in Fine Arts – Painting (1995) from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon. He earned his Master’s in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon in 2006 and a PhD in Fine Arts – Image specialty – also from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon (2011).
He has taught in the Course of Scenic Adornments at Colégio de Santa Clara/IFP, in Lisbon, where he was Course Director; at the School of Art and Design in Caldas da Rainha (ESAD/CR), where he held the position of sub-coordinator in the Course of Fine Arts, and he also taught in the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon (FBAUL), in the Arts and Multimedia Course, under a protocol between ESAD/CR and FBAUL. He began teaching Visual Arts in the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at the University of Algarve in 2008. He has been an Assistant Professor at the institution since 2015. He is currently the director of the Visual Arts Course and the vice-director of the PhD in Communication, Culture and Arts at the University of Algarve.
Research Interests: He has been developing activities as a plastic artist and curator of exhibitions over the last 20 years, including events such as Tilt (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon), Pedro e o Lobo (Peter and the Wolf, Neo-Realism Museum, Vila Franca de Xira), Ill Communication (with Carlos Roque, Sala do Veado, Lisbon), X-Rated/Autores em Movimento (X-Rated/Authors in Motion, ZDB Gallery, Lisbon), O Império Contra-Ataca (The Empire Strikes Back, co-commissioner, ZDB Gallery/La Capella Institute (MACBA), Lisbon and Barcelona), Espaço 1999 (Space 1999, co-organizer, Museum of Natural History, Lisbon), Fernando Brito 1983-2010 (Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Guimarães) and Manuel Vieira – CASA (Cordoaria Nacional, Lisbon).
He exhibited Sem Dó, com Ré (a tribute to Sá de Miranda) at Museu do Chiado (2011). This project was included in the commemorations of the Saint Vincent Panels by Nuno Gonçalves, organised in partnership with the artist Lula Pena.
In 2016 he exhibited Dragon’s lair at Ermida de Nossa Senhora de Belém and (E)motions at the Zarathan Gallery. In 2018 he presents the anthological exhibition portraying thirty years of work entitled Endless, at Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Guimarães.
As a member of Pogo Teatro, a theatre company, he participated in several shows enacted by the group, not only as a playwright and a scenographer, but also as a performer/actor.
He was also the founder of the artistic projects Autores em Movimento – Authors in Motion (Greenhouse/Jetlag/X-Rated) and featuring (Unlovable). In the music field, he was a founding member of the IK-MUX musical project and currently coordinates the PROJECTO FUZIVEL, experimental fusion music.
