Brief CV: Pere Ferré has a degree in Literature from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (1978) and a PhD in Romance Literature from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1987), where he became an Aggregate Professor in 1996. He has lectured at the University of Lisbon and Universidade Nova de Lisboa, as well as abroad, at the universities of Utrecht, Cologne and the École des Hautes Études de Paris. Since 2000 he has been a Full Professor at the University of Algarve. He was the founder of the Instituto de Estudos sobre o Romanceiro [Institute for Romanceiro Studies] (Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
Research Interests: He has devoted his scientific research – published in Portugal and abroad (Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil, etc.) – to the romanceiro of the modern oral tradition, to the old romanceiro, and to Spanish and Portuguese literature. He is currently a member of CIAC – Centre for Research in Arts and Communication (University of Algarve) and also carries out research in research centers abroad, such as the Instituto Seminario Menéndez Pidal (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). As a result of these works, which began over 30 years ago, he has published, among other works, the first description of a national baladistic corpus (Bibliografia do Romanceiro Português da Tradição Oral Moderna [Bibliography of the Portuguese Romanceiro of the Modern Oral Tradition], Madrid, 2000), as well as the first four volumes of the Romanceiro Português da Tradição Oral Moderna [Portuguese Romanceiro of the Modern Oral Tradition]. These volumes have been being published by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, since 2000, and include versions that had been published between 1828 and 1960. This Archive of the Portuguese Romanceiro was created under his coordination.
