Eugénia Vasques

Eugénia Vasques was born in Coimbra in 1948. She lived and studied in Paris between 1970 and 1975, where she attended the University of Paris VIII. When she returned to Portugal, she joined the National Conservatoire, where she completed the Actors/Senators Training Course (1980). She continued her studies at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon (Modern Languages and Literatures/Portuguese-French, 1985). In 1992, she obtained a PhD in Hispanic Language and Literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, with equivalence in Portuguese Studies from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She was a theater critic for the weekly Expresso between 1985-2001 and a contributor to various magazines. She is a retired Coordinating Professor at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema/Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, formerly the Conservatory Theatre School. She is a member of the Scientific Council and a member of the Library Council. She is also a lecturer on the Doctorate in Arts (University of Lisbon/ESTC).

Research Interests

She has collaborated with cultural institutions, namely the Ministry of Culture/Secretariat of State for Culture, the Ministry of Education and Science and various other organizations (National Reading Plan, etc.). She has also taken part in juries for theater awards (SPA, TEC, etc.) and collaborated on projects in the field of theater or artistic pedagogy. She is a researcher at the Arts and Communication Research Center (University of Algarve). She is a board member of the UNESCO Club for Art Education.
