7th Narrative, Media, and Cognition Conference: Exploring Intermedial Connections

The 7th Narrative, Media, and Cognition Conference, titled “Intermedial Connections: The Impure State of the Arts”, scheduled for May 8th to 10th, 2024, at the Theatre and Film School of the Lisbon Polytechnic Institute, has extended the submission deadline to April 5th, 2024.

Organized by the Theatre and Cinema School of the Lisbon Polytechnic Institute, in collaboration with Narrative, Media, and Cognition, this conference aims to explore the complex interconnections between different art forms and media, surpassing dualistic notions of intermediality.

Proposed topics for discussion include conceptions of media, intermediality, and cross-media, artistic hybridity, art forms as qualified media, adaptation, and narrative expression in the arts, among others.

Distinguished academics and professionals will be present as keynote speakers, including Ágnes Pethő from Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania (Romania), Chiel Kattenbelt from Utrecht University (Netherlands), and Paulo Filipe Monteiro from FCSH, Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Proposals for individual 20-minute presentations are welcome and should be submitted by April 5th, 2024, including an abstract of up to 500 words, 5 keywords, at least 3 bibliographical references, and a brief biography of the author. Submissions should be sent to Fátima Chinita at chinita.estc@gmail.com.

The conference will mainly be held in person, with a small quota reserved for remote presentations by researchers affiliated with academic institutions outside of Europe.

Researchers will pay a registration fee of €120, while students will benefit from a reduced fee of €60. For remote presentations, the fee will be €80.

Additionally, the organizers plan to publish a selection of articles based on conference presentations, in the form of a special issue of an academic journal and/or an international anthology, covering both conference languages.
