Célio Conceição appointed Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government
Manuel Célio Conceição, a lecturer at the University of the Algarve and CIAC researcher, has been appointed Officier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Government of the French Republic. The award ceremony took place on 19th September at the French Embassy in Lisbon.
The insignia was presented by Hélène Franaud-Delfromont, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to the Portuguese Republic.
Among other guests, the Rector of the University of the Algarve, Paulo Águas, the Director of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, Luís Sérgio Vieira, the Mayor of Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, and the President of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission, José Apolinário, were present.
This honour is awarded, according to the order, to personalities who distinguish themselves by their activity in the fields of culture and communication and by their contribution to the promotion of Arts and Letters in France and around the world.
It should be remembered that Manuel Célio Conceição had already been distinguished with the lower degree of this Order of Honour (Chevalier) in 2013.
Manuel Célio Conceição’s activity, with a high international profile in research, training and knowledge transfer, is centred on the area of language sciences, particularly in the fields of linguistic and cultural diversity, multilingualism, and language policies and science communication (an area in which he coordinates a specific task in the Alliance of the European University of the Seas SEA-EU).
