Ana Perfeito successfully defended her doctoral thesis with distinction
On May 27, 2025, doctoral candidate Ana de Jesus Caeiro Perfeito successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Narrative in Live Cinema Performance through Untouchable Interactivity: Representation of the Lucid Dream” as part of the Doctoral Program in Digital Media Art, specialization in Communication, Technology, and Art, at the University of Algarve.
The defense took place in Room 2.37, Building 1, Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (Gambelas Campus), before a jury chaired by Professor António Branco and composed of Professors Denize Correa Araújo, Mirian Estela Nogueira Tavares, Bruno Mendes da Silva, Francisco Merino, and Rui Paulo Mateus António.
The thesis, which explores the intersection of performance, live cinema, and interactivity through the concept of lucid dreaming, was positively evaluated by the jury members, and the candidate was awarded her doctorate with distinction. The research investigates new narrative possibilities at the crossroads of art, technology, and sensory experience, offering an innovative perspective on audience participation in immersive audiovisual performances.
Ana Perfeito’s work represents a significant contribution to the field of Digital Media Art by proposing a theoretical and practical approach that integrates elements of cinema, live performance, and interactive technology, reflecting a contemporary exploration of altered states of consciousness and their artistic representation.
