António Costa Valente is part of the Europa Cinemas jury at the Venice Film Festival
António Costa Valente is part of the Europa Cinemas jury of Giornate degli Autori of the 81. Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica da Bienal de Veneza.
Curator of the film programming of the Mandatory Plan in “Os Filmes das Nossas terças”, in the “Teatro Aveirense”, António Costa Valente has developed research projects in the area of film programming, integrating the CIAC – Research Center in Arts and Communication at the University of Algarve, where he is a professor. Also directs the AVANCA Film Festival, which will have its 29th edition in 2025 and has been producing and directing films under the Cine Clube de Avanca.
The Europa Cinemas label is awarded to films produced and co-produced in Europe. Created by a network of European exhibitors, with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, the prize is monetary and intended for the distribution and promotion of the winning film, along with its screening in cinemas belonging to the Europa Cinemas network.
Supported since its creation by the European Commission (Creative Europe / MEDIA) and by the CNC (France), Europa Cinemas is the first cinema chain focused on European films. Founded in 1992 by a group of thirty cinema exhibitors, it has become a chain of 1,263 cinemas and 3,121 screens in 39 countries in 30 years.
The Europa Cinemas jury also consists of the programmers: Daira Āboliņa (Splendid Palace, Riga, Letónia), Andrea Porta (Cinema Teatro Nuovo, Varese, Itália) e Jana Trnková (Kino Světozor, Prague, Chéquia).
As the oldest of the most important film festivals in the world, the Venice Film Festival begins on August 28 and runs until September 7, when the winner of the Europa Cinemas Award will be announced.
