Bruno Mendes da Silva is the new coordinator of the Group on Educational Technologies at MetaRedTIC Portugal

Bruno Mendes da Silva, the vice-coordinator of the Research Center for Arts and Communication (CIAC), has recently been nominated as the coordinator of the Research Group on Educational Technologies at MetaRedTIC Portugal. This accomplishment holds particular significance in driving forward the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in higher education in Portugal.

The Research Group on Educational Technologies primary mission is to support Higher Education Institutions in the country to explore and fully leverage the potential of ICT to enhance teaching and learning.

Bruno Mendes da Silva, with a PhD in Communication, Culture, and Arts from the University of Algarve (UAlg), brings extensive experience as the President of the Technical-Scientific Council and Director of the Department of Communication at the Higher School of Education and Communication (ESEC) of UAlg. Throughout his career, Bruno Mendes da Silva has participated in twenty-three scientific projects and authored numerous scientific publications. His election as the coordinator of the Research Group on Educational Technologies will undoubtedly drive the implementation of innovative technological solutions in Portuguese universities.

The group’s objectives include sharing successful initiatives, assessing the state of implementation of technological solutions, identifying weaknesses and strengths for incorporation, as well as supporting the creation of joint initiatives for technological development in higher education.

In another context within MetaRedTIC Portugal, we also highlight the appointment of Maria Potes Barbas, coordinator of the Digital Literacy and Social Inclusion hub at CIAC, as the coordinator of the Research Group on Women in ICT. This group aims to promote women’s participation in the ICT domain, empower them through training, and highlight their talents, skills, and experiences as valuable elements for the development of knowledge and society at large.

Maria Potes Barbas, Senior Coordinator in Educational Technology and Associate Professor at the Open University (UAb), will lead specific initiatives to give visibility to women leaders in ICT, inspire women to thrive in the ICT world, and contribute to greater female participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in society.
