Call for Papers for ROTURA journal open until 27 February 2026

The call for papers is now open for the next issue of ROTURA — Journal of Communication, Culture and Arts, featuring the thematic dossier entitled “Visual Methods for Investigating Communication from Creative and Multimodal Perspectives”. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 27 February 2026.

This issue proposes a critical and interdisciplinary reflection on the role of visual methods as investigative tools in the field of communication, exploring sensory, media-based and collaborative approaches. The editorial proposal highlights that “visual methods offer an alternative way of exploring reality through a mediated visual perspective, with the aim of transcending the limits and disciplinary specificity that restrict the creative potential of the social sciences”.

The call invites the submission of articles addressing both the theoretical foundations and the practical applications of visual methods, including:

  • Visual methodologies and emerging technologies
  • Vision and artificial intelligence in visual research methodologies
  • Intersections between visual methods and research-creation practices
  • Critical studies on interpretative ethics in visual research processes
  • Visual scientific creation and aesthetics: post-documentary, immersive, interactive or transmedia
  • Case studies and digital visual restitutions of research
  • Epistemology and studies of algorithmic visuality
  • Analysis of algorithmic visual policies in the recognition of scopic regimes

The issue will be coordinated by Alba Marín Carrillo (Universidad de Extremadura), Charles-Alexandre Delestage (Université Bordeaux Montaigne), Fernando Contreras Medina (Universidad de Sevilla), Ricardo Ignacio Prado Hurtado (Universidad Anáhuac) and Noa Real García (Universidad de La Laguna).

Important dates:

  • Submission of proposals: until 27 February 2026
  • Notification of acceptance: 30 April 2026
  • Submission of final version: 29 May 2026
  • Publication: 30 July 2026

The call is open to contributions that adopt a critical, creative and interdisciplinary perspective and that explore visual methods as instruments of knowledge production, also questioning modes of representation, scopic regimes and the ethical processes involved in contemporary visual research.

The Varia section, dedicated to open-topic articles, as well as the Art Chronicles and Interviews, remains open on a rolling basis.
