CIAC co-organises VII Days of Classical Studies “(Re)telling the Greco-Latin classics to the youngest”
CIAC, participates in the organisation of the Call for Papers VII Classical Studies Conference ‘(Re)telling the Greco-Latin classics to the youngest’ 12–13 May 2025, Faro — Portugal
The VII Classical Studies Conference will be held for the first time in the Algarve (Centro de Investigação em Arte e Comunicação/ Universidade do Algarve), after the success of the previous six editions in the Azores.
The activity, which has brought together participants from various countries, is part of the complementary project Artes Docendi — and this year also the complementary project ‘Re-writing Myth’, both from the CECH (Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the University of Coimbra) — and is aimed at secondary and higher education students. It aims to promote a taste for Classical Studies by addressing themes from the ancient world and, consequently, how these topics manifest themselves — or persist — in contemporary times.
The colloquium will be certified as a short-term training course.
The theme chosen for this year, ‘(Re)telling the Greco-Latin classics to the younger generation’, aims to challenge the speakers to present their research and their practices not only to their peers, but to a younger audience.
– What strategies have been found to bring the ancient world closer to young people?
– What are the most effective forms of communication?
– How can the passion for antiquity be transmitted?
– What can be learnt from Greek-Latin antiquity from an early age?
These and other questions can be addressed here. We welcome proposals for papers (20 minutes) on the theme indicated, which can be related to the various fields of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences (literature, history, philosophy, geography, etc.) and extend to other chronological periods than just Classical Antiquity, as long as this is the starting point.
The proposal should include:
– Name
– Affiliation
– Brief Curricular Information (up to 100 words)
– Title of the paper – Abstract (up to 250 words).
Any queries should be sent to anogueir@ualg.pt or amariano@ualg.pt, indicating ‘VII JEC — Query’ in the subject line.
Those interested in submitting a communication proposal should send it by 31 March 2025, indicating ‘VII JEC — Communication Proposal’ in the subject line, to the same addresses as above.
