CIAC researcher Hugo Martins to lead a workshop in the ECREA series


CIAC researcher Hugo Martins has been selected to lead a workshop within the framework of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), as part of the ECREA Workshop Series: Methods for Media and Communication Research.

The theme of the session will be “Innovative Filmmakers and Digital Technology: Processes and Aesthetics.” The workshop will explore works by contemporary filmmakers who use accessible technologies in their films, fostering an in-depth discussion on how such examples may relate to the participants’ research and/or creative practice.

The session is aimed at PhD candidates, junior researchers, and professionals working in film, media, and other arts fields. It will be held online on May 29, 2026, at 14:30 (CET), in English. More information is available at: https://ecrea.eu/news/13599813

Hugo Martins holds a PhD in Performing Arts and Moving Image from the University of Lisbon (Faculty of Fine Arts / School of Arts and Humanities / Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon). He has a degree in Film from the School of Theatre and Film and studied at the New York Film Academy.

He directed the film A Vida do Avesso (2017) and a segment included in the anthology film O Que Há de Novo no Amor? (2012). He also works as an assistant director in film production.

As a researcher, he collaborates with two research centers: CIAC (Research Centre for Arts and Communication) and CIEBA (Research Centre for Fine Arts and Artistic Studies).
