CIAC is organizing the PROPS Meeting: Digital Diversity, Tolerance, and Online Inclusion

On July 4, 2024, the “PROPS Meeting: Digital Diversity, Tolerance, and Online Inclusion” will take place in Auditorium 1.5 of the Pedagogical Complex – Penha Campus. This event marks the conclusion of the PROPS – Interactive Narratives Propose a Pluralistic Discourse project, a CIAC/UAlg initiative.

Vítor Tomé, a specialist in Digital Citizenship from the Council of Europe and a researcher at Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon, will deliver the keynote speech titled “Combating Hate Speech through Digital Citizenship Education”.

As part of the dissemination of the project’s results, various presentations will be given, showcasing an extensive study on online hate speech. This includes data collection from schools in the Algarve region, aiming to understand young players’ perceptions of the research topic, and the presentation and discussion of a series of interactive narratives designed to engage and motivate teachers, educators, and young students to reflect on and discuss this issue.

In addition, there will be a roundtable discussion featuring Carolina Sousa (Expert in Resilience in Education | Coordinator Professor at UAlg), Joaquim Godinho (Executive Secretary of MetaRed Portugal), and Lígia Azevedo (Coordinator of the SeguraNet Program, Directorate-General for Education). This panel will provide a platform to discuss topics such as digital citizenship education in educational communities, the application of ICT in the classroom, cybersecurity, and data protection.

Finally, Bruno Mendes da Silva and Ana Filipa Martins, the project coordinators, will present the e-book “Interactive Narratives Propose a Pluralistic Discourse“, which explores the research themes of PROPS and serves as a means to present the various digital and pedagogical resources developed over the 18 months of the project.
