CIAC promotes seminar on social networks and disinformation with Rosa Martín


Rosa Domínguez Martín, from the International University of Valencia, has been carrying out a research stay at CIAC — Centre for Research in Arts and Communication since November 4th. As part of her activities, the seminar Redes sociales: ¿información o desinformación? Reeducar la mirada hacia un uso responsable.

This seminar, which takes place as part of the Spanish Language and Culture V subject of the Languages, Literatures and Cultures and Languages and Intercultural Communication degrees, will be open to the whole community. The event will take place on November 7th, starting at 2:30 pm, in room 1.56 of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of the Algarve.

In this seminar, Rosa Martín will address the growing use of social networks as a means of communication, questioning the veracity of the information circulating on them. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the advantages and disadvantages of consulting news via social networks, as well as learning how to identify the so-called ‘fake news’. The aim is to promote responsible use of social media, which is crucial for avoiding social alarms and protecting people’s mental health.

Rosa Domínguez has a degree in Pedagogy, a doctorate in Education, and is director of the Pedagogy Degree and professor at the Faculty of Education of the International University of Valencia – VIU.

Rosa Domínguez’s stay will run from November 4th, 2024, to March 28th, 2025.
