CIAC researchers participate in colloquium honouring the life and work of writer António Lobo Antunes


The University of Algarve is organising the colloquium “António Lobo Antunes 1942–2026” on 25 May, starting at 10am, at the António Rosa Mendes Library on the Gambelas Campus. Open to the public, the event aims to honour the life and work of the writer António Lobo Antunes, who passed away in March 2026, through the analysis and exploration of his work from multiple perspectives.

Following the opening session, the colloquium will feature four thematic sessions, beginning at 10:30am with the lecture “‘Try the Right Hand’: The Ambidextrous Writing of António Lobo Antunes”, delivered by Filipe Cammaert, from the Universidade de Aveiro, and moderated by Carina Infante do Carmo, professor at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS) of UAlg.

At 11:30am, during the second session, moderated by Pedro Sousa, professor at FCHS and researcher at CIAC-UAlg, João Minhoto Marques, also a professor at FCHS, will present “The Novelistic Rivers of António Lobo Antunes”. This will be followed by a presentation by Sara Vitorino Fernandez, professor at FCHS and researcher at CIAC, entitled “Word and Sound: António Lobo Antunes as Lyricist”.

In the afternoon, at 2pm, the third session, moderated by João Minhoto Marques, will feature Carina Infante do Carmo speaking on “Memory and Narrative Composition in the Chronicles of António Lobo Antunes”, and Jorge Carrega, CIAC researcher, presenting the paper “Letters from War: António Lobo Antunes in Cinema”.

During the fourth and final session, excerpts from the writer’s work will be read aloud.
