‘Computer Programming and Digital Art’ – with Rodrigo Gomes is the next Communication Sciences Seminar


The next Communication Sciences Seminar, with the theme ‘Computer Programming and Digital Art’, will take place on 2 May at 6.30pm in Amphitheatre 67, ESEC, on the University of the Algarve’s Penha Campus.

Born in Faro, his work centres on the relationship between sculpture and architecture, creating physical and digital relationships through computer-generated content and machine learning systems. He has participated in group and solo exhibitions such as 19th Media Art Biennale WRO (Poland, 2021), Alternative Film/Video Festival in Belgrade (Serbia, 2020), Video Art Miden Festival (Greece, 2020), Satellite Art Show NYC (USA, 2019), 18th Media Art Biennale WRO in Wroclaw (Poland, 2019), CosmiX III Incantation in Paris (France, 2019), ‘Depois do Estouro’ Galeria Municipal do Porto Portugal, 2019), ‘Aspekt! Aspekt!’ at the WRO Art Centre (Poland, 2019), “Entre as pedras há verde” Ocupart (PT, 2019), “Mamografias por Satélite” The Room (PT, 2019), “Como depositar imagens no banco” Appeton Box (PT, 2018), “The New Art Fest” at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes (PT, 2018) and the Sonae Media Art Prize at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (PT, 2017). In 2021 he received the D-Normal V-Essay Floating Points Award (Hong Kong), in 2020 the Black Raven Award from The New Art Fest, in 2018 the Premios Novos in the Visual Arts category and in 2017 the Sonae Media Art award. In 2019 he was awarded a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholarship for international production and received the merit award – Young Revelation by the Municipality of Silves.

This seminar is the result of a partnership with the Zer0 Museum and is organised as part of the Creative Programming Laboratory course unit of the master’s degree in Communication and Digital Media.
