Conference “Portuguese Literary Routes and Itineraries” to take place on May 14
The conference Portuguese Literary Routes and Itineraries: Territory, Cultural Policies and Regeneration, to be held online on May 14, 2026, aims to present and discuss a diverse set of literary routes and itineraries developed across Portugal.
Organized by the journal Lit&Tour – International Journal of Literature & Tourism Research, the event brings together highly relevant projects that, from different regions, have been establishing literature as a structuring axis of cultural and tourism experiences. Throughout the conference, representative case studies from across the country will be presented and discussed, organized into panels reflecting the geographical and cultural diversity of the national territory: North, Centre, Alentejo, Algarve, Azores, and Madeira.
The event will feature invited speakers directly involved in the design, development, and promotion of these projects, offering a privileged space for sharing practices, critical reflection, and interdisciplinary dialogue. More than a simple presentation forum, the conference seeks to create a platform for exchange among researchers, cultural agents, policymakers, and tourism professionals, fostering the circulation of knowledge and strengthening collaborative networks.
Among its strategic objectives is the recognition of the role of literary routes in enhancing territories, shaping sustainable cultural policies, and mediating relationships between literature, heritage, and communities. The event is thus part of a broader effort to consolidate a field of practice that is increasingly articulated, structured, and collaborative.
Registration is free but mandatory (here).
The detailed program will be announced soon.
