Conversation with visual artist Tiago Baptista on 27 November
Following his solo exhibition Bílis Negra, currently on view at Alfaia, visual artist Tiago Baptista will present his work and career to the students of the Visual Arts Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Algarve.
Tiago Baptista (Leiria, 1986) is a visual artist who works mainly in painting, frequently expanding into other fields such as sculpture, comics, self-publishing and installation. He has been exhibiting his work regularly since 2008 in both solo and group exhibitions in Portugal and abroad. Highlights among his solo shows include: Pedra e vento (with Mariana Gomes), at Buraco, Lisbon, in 2025; Marea enmudecida, at Nogueras Blanchard gallery in Barcelona in 2023; Caminho pela linha da sombra, at CAV in Coimbra, curated by Ana Anacleto; The Tale, at Rialto 6 in Lisbon, curated by Susana Ventura; and O único espectáculo é o da espera, at 3+1 Arte Contemporânea in Lisbon in 2022; as well as Febre, curated by Natxo Checa at Galeria Zé dos Bois, Lisbon, in 2021. Among his group exhibitions, highlights include: Metanoia II, what remains?, curated by David Revés, at Frappant Gallery, Hamburg, in 2025; and Canção Contemporânea – Obras da Coleção Mário Teixeira da Silva na Coleção de Serralves, curated by Marta Moreira de Almeida, at Fundação Serralves, Porto, in 2024. He has taken part in several artist residency programmes, most recently at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris in 2023. He also publishes his writings on music on the blog Desenhando Constelações.
This is an opportunity to get an up-close look at the artist’s practice and to discuss processes, materiality and pictorial inquiry. Admission is free for all those interested.
