Doctoral Retreat in Digital Media-Art takes place in Loulé, organized by UAlg and UAb

The Doctoral Retreat in Digital Media-Art (Retiro DMAD 2025) will take place from 14 to 18 July 2025, an annual event that brings together students, faculty, and researchers from the PhD in Digital Media-Art at the University of Algarve (UAlg) and the Universidade Aberta (UAb). This year’s edition will be held at the Convento do Espírito Santo in Loulé, with the opening session scheduled for 14 July at 10:30 a.m.

The retreat is organized by UAlg and UAb, with the support of CIAC – Research Centre for Arts and Communication, the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and the Loulé City Council, strengthening the connection between academic research, artistic creation, and engagement with the local community.

Retiro DMAD serves as a privileged space for sharing knowledge and experiences among doctoral students, researchers, and artists, promoting the convergence of art, science, and technology. Over five days, the program includes Artist Talks, research presentations, workshops, artistic performances, and the exhibition “Circuitos: Digital Media-Art Exhibition,” where PhD students showcase the artifacts developed within the program.

The PhD program in Digital Media-Art is directed by Mirian Tavares, with vice-direction by Pedro Alves da Veiga, and the retreat organization is coordinated by Pedro Pestana, all researchers at CIAC – Research Centre for Arts and Communication. This annual event also represents a unique opportunity to strengthen the DMAD educational community, which is usually dispersed across different digital and geographic contexts.
