Fátima Chinita was co-editor of the latest issue of Ekphrasis journal
CIAC researcher Fátima Chinita contributed to the publication of the latest issue of the scientific journal Ekphrasis (vol.31) as guest co-editor, presenting an article that analyzes the film Inland Empire (2006).
The 31st volume of the journal Ekphrasis was co-edited by Fátima Chinita and also featured an article by her entitled “Hermeneutic Decoder: The Lure of Interpretation in Complex Cinema as Exemplified in David Lynch’s INLAND’S EMPIRE (2006)”, which aims to show, through an analysis of the film Inland Empire (2006), that the prologue is just as important as the rest of the film, in cases like this where the post-modern narrative is non-linear.
However, according to the study’s abstract, the prologue explains part of what is to come and arouses the viewer’s curiosity, a segment referred by the author as hermeneutic decoders. The researcher points out that several examples are provided of established categories of complex films and discusses a specific case study in more detail: David Lynch’s Inland Empire (2006), which belongs to an indecipherable category of narratives that Kiss and Willemsen call “impossible puzzle films”.
