TREM Gallery hosts Jorge Ferré’s Hortus Conclusus exhibition

The exhibition “Hortus Conclusus,” by Spanish painter Jorge Ferré, brings to Portugal, for the first time, a collection of paintings by this artist who has an international career, having participated in exhibitions in various cities across Europe.

According to María LLuïsa Borràs, his painting is sober and reflective, and remains distant from trends or fashions. Jorge Ferré’s work lies in the field of abstraction, closer to a certain formalism, which was also present in some of Rothko’s work, while also seeming to seek transparency or illumination, reminiscent of the early works of Kandinsky. His formalism is paradoxically lyrical; the geometry that persists in each painting is the result of a secure and reflective artistic gesture, never of an unreflective or casual action.

For the exhibition at the Trem Gallery – Manuel Baptista, the painter chose a series of oil paintings that maintain a formal unity but each of them possesses the particularity of containing, among the spaces surrounding the frame, different movements and textures.

This exhibition, free of charge, will have its opening on March 7th, at 6:30 pm, and will be on display at the Trem Municipal Gallery – Manuel Baptista until April 19, 2024. It emerges within the framework of the Visual Arts course programming at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Algarve for the Trem Municipal Gallery – Manuel Baptista, with the support of CIAC, FCT, and the Municipality of Faro/Faro Municipal Museum.
