Hugo Paquete collaborates on “Yugen”, a show that combines dance and technology at MODINA

Hugo Paquete, researcher at CIAC, collaborated in the creation of the dance show entitled Yugen, developed by the artists Chris Ziegler and Christine Bonansea.

This project will be one of the three projects presented at MODINA — Movement, Digital Intelligence and Interactive Audience. MODINA is an international residency project that aims to expand the creative possibilities of contemporary dance through digital technology, with an emphasis on the exploration of artificial intelligence (AI) and audience interaction, both on site and online. At the Trafó House of Contemporary Arts, there will be three projects developed during the residency.

Under the title Yugen, which means ‘mystery and depth’ in Japanese, Chris, and Christine investigate the tension between digital technologies and intense physicality on stage. They experiment with a motion capture suit and develop a pas de deux between a human dancer and a VR avatar in a feedback loop. This looped transmission process is interrupted and altered in order to rediscover the physical and individual quality of human expression in the mirror of its artificiality.

The dance performance will take place at the Trafó House of Contemporary Arts in Bucharest, Hungary, on October 30th, 2024, starting at 13:30 until 20:00. Admission to the event is free.
