Jorge Carrega gives a Communication Sciences Seminar on Mass culture and transnational cinema in Mediterranean Europe
The next Communication Sciences Seminar, with the theme ‘Mass culture and transnational cinema in Mediterranean Europe’, will be given by Prof Jorge Carrega. The session will take place on 28 February in Amphitheatre 1.3 of the Pedagogical Complex of the Penha Campus of the University of the Algarve at 14:30.
Jorge Manuel Neves Carrega is a postdoctoral researcher on the project ‘1950-1974: Popular Genres and Transnational Cinema in Mediterranean Europe’ (UAlg, 2018), holds a PhD in Communication, Culture and Arts from the University of the Algarve (2014) and a Master’s degree in Literature (UAlg, 2009). He was awarded an FCT doctoral scholarship and has been teaching courses related to Cinema and the Arts at UAlg since 2012. He currently coordinates the CIAC Film Studies Working Group and organises the Mediterranean Cinemas Colloquium. He is the author of seven books, including ‘Popular Genres and Transnational Cinema in Mediterranean Europe’ (2023) and ‘A Brief History of Culture in Faro’ (2018). He has published four dozen articles and book chapters in various scientific publications.
This seminar is organised as part of the Transnational Communication course in the 2nd year of the degree in Communication Sciences.
The Communication Sciences Seminar Cycle is an initiative that has been developed in recent years in conjunction with professionals and the community. The sessions are organised by researchers from CIAC’s Communication Sciences working group, who teach on the undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and the master’s degree in Communication and Digital Media at ESEC-UAlg.
