José Paulo Pereira publishes paper in the latest issue of Porto das Letras journal
CIAC researcher José Paulo Pereira published the paper entitled “Mia Couto: the future of the past, in Terra Sonâmbula” in the latest issue of the journal Porto das Letras, dedicated to the theme “Voices and Identities: Critical Pathways between Literary Tradition, Culture, and Education.”
In this text, the researcher proposes a reading of the novel Terra Sonâmbula by Mia Couto in light of the Derridean logic of the supplement, articulating it not only with the processes of reading and (re)writing that run through the work, but also with the Freudian notion of Nachträglichkeit, understood as a retroactive temporality in which the past is re-signified a posteriori. The analysis thus highlights the construction of a plural and multi-layered subjectivity, evident in several characters in their struggle for survival.
To support this interpretation, the author draws on various texts by Jacques Derrida, which focus on the subject’s memory and the destination of writing, as well as writings by Sigmund Freud, which help deepen questions related to fantasy, dreams, and mechanisms of psychic elaboration.
