Mirian Tavares and Florence Dravet have published an article about the series “The Midnight Gospel”

The latest edition of the Journal Famecos features the article “The Myth of Puer Aeternus in The Midnight Gospel: Psychological Health and Meditation” authored by Florence Dravet, a researcher at the Catholic University of Brasília, and Mirian Tavares, coordinator and researcher at CIAC.

The article aims to demonstrate, through an analysis of the series The Midnight Gospel (2020), how digital narrative explores, enhances, and reinterprets mythological themes in contemporary times. The authors draw upon theories of the imaginary and narrative studies to analyze the myth of puer aeternus in the series, revealing the challenges of adulthood in a world where social reality is permeated by simulations or escapism.

It concludes that the narrative assumes a pedagogical, dialogical, and interactive role, present in orality and conversational practices, and that meditation is a necessary practice for psychological health, as stated in the article abstract.

The Midnight Gospel is an animated series that premiered in 2020, created by Pendleton Ward and Duncan Trussell. It follows the adventures of Clancy, a spacecaster who ventures out into the universe to interview various creatures about existential questions.
