The Cine Bárbaras – International Conference on Cinema and Audiovisual aims to be a space for reflection and debate dedicated to gender studies and feminist film theory. The conference seeks to address topics such as representation and representativity, feminisms in cinema, intersectionality, and the role of women and other marginalised identities in film production and exhibition. By highlighting the multiple ways in which women and non-binary people participate both in front of and behind the camera, the event values their contributions to the development of new aesthetics and narratives in cinema.

The conference is jointly organised by Universidade Lusófona – Porto University Centre, XX Element Project – Cultural Association, and Porto Femme – International Film Festival.
