Municipal Equality Day in Tavira with the presence of Mirian Tavares

As part of Municipal Equality Day, celebrated on 24 October, the municipality of Tavira is marking the date on 26 October with a talk on equality. Mirian Tavares, coordinator of CIAC, will be one of the guests at the round table ‘We are all equal’ [Todas somos iguais].

The conversation on equality will be moderated by Bernardo Mendonça, a journalist for the weekly Expresso journal, and will feature Maria Seruya, a motivational artist dedicated to the theme of ageing and founder of the ‘Velhas Bonitonas’ project, Sara Baptista, PhD in Microbiology and Parasitology, and Mirian Tavares, Professor at the University of Algarve, PhD in Contemporary Communication and Culture from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and Master in Communication and Semiotics from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP).

The initiative will take place at Clube de Tavira, starting at 4pm, and will culminate at 10pm with a concert by ‘Fado Bicha’, a Portuguese musical and activist duo formed by Lila Fadista and João Caçador.

The municipality of Tavira emphasises that ‘to speak of feminism is to address the struggle for equality, for the rights of all women, taking into account the diversity of the group. When gender oppression is worked on in relation to other types of oppression suffered by people, namely racism, xenophobia, sexism, classism, ethnophobia, Lbgtqphobia and even fatphobia, it tends to fight against all forms of discrimination’. The aim of this initiative is to promote a debate on equality and to reflect on recent concepts related to human rights.
