Other Sensitive Matters, laboratories of thought and experimentation is directed by Susana de Medeiros
Susana de Medeiros, a researcher at CIAC, has developed a series of workshops on Edgar Massul’s exhibition ‘emguarda’, entitled: Other Sensitive Matters, laboratories for thought and experimentation.
This is an educational and artistic project that aims to foster the creation of spaces for dialogue, criticism and experimentation, based on Edgar Massul’s emguarda exhibition at the Sagres Fortress Contemporary Art Centre. The aim of these workshops is to explore drawing and temporary sculpture in relation to the materials used by the artist. Participants will be invited to carry out a series of experiments using organic material from the municipality of Vila do Bispo: drawings with soil, leaves and fruit that will be crushed and used on paper and sculptural objects based on plant shapes – made with branches and trunks from bushes and trees.
There will be four workshops, two aimed at adults and young people (with prior enrolment) and two aimed at the school community.
The workshops, aimed at adults and young people, will take place on Sundays, 13 April at 2.30pm and 27 April at 10am, and will last around 3 hours. The connection to the land and its ancestry will be explored, present in the procedural research of some contemporary women artists. The creative process and the exploration of the organic nature of the materials used by these women artists will be put into relation with the works of Edgar Massul.
The workshops aimed at the school community will take place on the mornings of 24 and 28 April.
Participation in the workshops is free, but requires prior registration via the following email: geral.fsagres@museusemonumentos.pt
The exhibition is curated by Mirian Tavares and Pedro Cabral Santo (CIAC-UALG) and can be visited at the Sagres Fortress Contemporary Art Centre every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm, with last entry at 5pm, until the end of April.
