SEA-EU Staff Week Held at the University of Algarve

From 28 to 30 October, the University of Algarve hosted the SEA-EU Staff Week entitled “Sea Heritages in the Algarve”, organised by CIAC researchers Jorge Carrega and Gabriela Borges. The event, aimed at teachers, researchers, and staff from the SEA-EU alliance partner universities, fostered discussion on the tangible and intangible heritages connected to the Sea, highlighting its historical and cultural importance in the Algarve region and its representation through the arts.

The programme included visits to the Faro Municipal Museum, the Ramalho Ortigão Maritime Museum, the Faro Cathedral, and the University of Algarve Library and Archives, as well as networking sessions and thematic panels featuring contributions from UAlg and CIAC professors and researchers: João Pedro Bernardes, Andreia Fidalgo, Sara Vitorino Fernandez, Silvia Quinteiro, and Carlos Simões (ICArHEB).

The Staff Week also featured a film session dedicated to the 13 finalist short films of the 2nd SEA-EU Film Festival, organised this year by CIAC. The session concluded with Vice-Rector Patrícia Pinto presenting the award for Best Film to Beatriz Puga and Isabela Mendes, students of the Animated Image degree at UAlg/ESEC, for their short film “Purring Memories/Ronronar de Lembranças”.

Through this event, which brought together eleven colleagues from the Universities of Split, Gdańsk, Kiel, and Cádiz, CIAC contributed to strengthening collaboration among the SEA-EU alliance partners, promoting knowledge and innovation in cultural heritage and the arts.
