Sílvia Leiria Viegas Participates in the Workshop Practitioner’s Companion to Decolonisation
Sílvia Leiria Viegas, a researcher at CIAC, is participating in the “Practitioner’s Companion to Decolonisation” workshop, as part of the COST Action CA19129 Decolonising Development, which she has been involved with since 2022.
Decolonising Development (DecolDEV) is a four-year COST Action initiative that seeks to reconstruct the concept of development in a non-Eurocentric way, mindful of the epistemically unjust power relations. The Action aims to redefine and diversify the structures, institutions, and spaces where knowledge about development is produced, shared, contested, and implemented.
The workshop will take place from 5 to 7 June 2024 at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) of the University of Coimbra. It is an initiative of Working Group 3 – Development Practice, led by Jelina Vićentić and Livia Lima. The workshop aims to counteract colonial legacies in development cooperation, aid, and financialisation, which hinder solidarity and decolonial practices.
The Working Group will address issues such as disentangling international cooperation from finance, recognising solidarity and conviviality as practices of international collaboration, and evaluating donor/beneficiary and expert/layperson relationships.
Participants in this collaborative writing workshop will also engage in brainstorming sessions and work on the development of a “Vocabulary Project”.
