Transnational Journalism Spotlighted in Upcoming Seminar on Communication Sciences

The next Communication Sciences Seminar will be dedicated to “Transnational Journalism: Threats, Challenges, and New Opportunities. A Case Study of Media in Cape Verde,” featuring journalist Carlos Santos.

Carlos Santos began his journalism career in 1991, during the country’s transition to multi-party democracy. He has primarily worked in radio, with brief stints in television and contributions to newspapers. Since 2013, he has been a correspondent for RDP-África in Cape Verde.

He has won the National Journalism Award three times: in 2014, 2016, and 2023. Santos also served as the Sole Manager of the Cape Verdean News Agency, INFORPRESS, and was the president of the Cape Verdean Journalists’ Union (2018-2020).

Santos was the director of Rádio Nacional de Cabo Verde (2006-2008) and (2011-2013) and authored the book “The Megaphone of Power,” published in 2017.

The seminar will be held in a hybrid mode and is promoted within the framework of the Transnational Communication Curricular Unit taught by Professor Cármen Monereo to second-year students in the Communication Sciences degree program.

The Communication Sciences Seminar Series is an initiative that has been developed in recent years in collaboration with professionals and the community. The sessions are organized by researchers from the Communication Sciences working group at CIAC, who are also lecturers in the Communication Sciences undergraduate program and the Digital Communication and Media master’s program at ESEC-UAlg.
