Yearbook of the Union of Parishes of Faro directed by Jorge Carrega

On December 28th, the Municipal Museum of Faro hosted the launch of the new Yearbook of the Union of Parishes of Faro. The issue brings together articles from some of the most active historians in the Algarve today.

Jorge Carrega, the publication’s director, revisited the other volumes that the Union of Parishes of Faro has been publishing since 2018.

The Union of Parishes of Faro highlights the participation of Fernando Pessanha in this new volume, presenting “Rui Valente: a pirate from Faro in the Manor House of Infante D. Henrique.” Also contributing were Marco Sousa Santos, with “Faro: two eighteenth-century tile panels from the former mansion of the Pantoja family,” Daniel Santana, through “Isolino Vaz, a painter who is reborn,” and Fernando Nuno Vieira, with his contribution titled “The genesis of football in Faro.”

The launch of this new issue was marked by speeches from Marco Lopes, director of the Municipal Museum of Faro, Bruno Lage, president of the Union of Parishes of Faro, and archaeologist Ana Martins, winner of the second edition of the Historical Essay Prize awarded by the Union of Parishes of Faro.
