The CREATOUR Project, coordinated by the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, also includes researchers from CIDEHUS: Interdisciplinary Centre for History, Cultures and Societies, University of Évora, from CIEO: Research Centre for Spatial and Organisational Dynamics, University of the Algarve, from DINAMIA’CET: Centre for Studies on Socio-Economic Change and Territory, ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon and Lab2PT: Landscape, Heritage and Territory Laboratory, University of the Minho. At the University of the Algarve, the project is headed by researcher Alexandra Gonçalves, while the team also includes CIAC researcher Mirian Tavares. The three-year project, supported by European funding (through COMPETE2020, POR Lisboa, POR Algarve) and the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, aims to be a multidisciplinary research initiative, supporting collaborative research processes with the goal of connecting the cultural/creative and the tourism sectors, through the development of an integrated research and application approach to boost creative tourism in small towns and rural areas throughout the country. During the project, five research centres will work with various cultural/creative organisations and other interested parties located in small towns in Portugal in the Norte, Centro, Alentejo and Algarve regions.
