The M5SAR Project is funded by Portugal2020, CRESC Algarve 2020.

The project’s developer is Algarve-based company SPIC – Sonha Pensa Imagina Comunica, Lda, in partnership with co-developer, the University of the Algarve. The UAlg team, headed by CIAC researcher, João Rodrigues, includes researchers Pedro Cardoso, Jorge Semião, Jânio Monteiro, Célia Ramos, Joana Lessa, Mauro Figueiredo, Paulo Felisberto, Eduardo Esteves and Roberto Lam.

The aim of the project, which runs from January 01, 2016 to October 31, 2018, is to develop an augmented reality system for mobile devices (phablet and tablet), which explores the five human senses (5S) (sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste). The intention is for the system to be used as a guide at cultural, historical and museums events. This system will include three products: (a) a mobile app (software), downloadable from the “app store” or website, which will work on the latest devices, focusing on four of the five senses: sight, hearing, touch and taste; (b) a device (hardware) that can be sold separately or can be hired in the museum. This device focuses on three of the five senses: touch, smell and taste; (c) both the app (a) and the device (b) can be associated, further enhancing the user experience, which means that one of the features of device (b) will be easy coupling to mobile devices (phablet and tablet), as well as full integration with the app.
