The Romanceiro.pt project is headed by Pedro Ferré and Sandra Boto, and has been developed at the Centre for Research in Arts and Communication (CIAC), with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the partnership of the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation.
The project team includes researchers Mirian Tavares, Isa Mestre and Juan Escribano. The main aim of the project, which began in 2013, is to provide the public with an archive of undeniable cultural value within the scope of Portugal’s literary heritage. To this end, the project strives towards modernisation and technological sophistication, which culminates, for now, in the presentation of a revamped digital platform that allows, among other facets, the direct collaboration of the user by sending materials related to the ‘Romenceiro Tradicional’’ [oral tradition literary works] in Portugal (notes, audio recordings, video or transcriptions).
The romanceiro.pt platform gives users direct and documented access to more than 10,000 versions of novels of the Portuguese oral tradition. The website also contains further information about the project, about the history of the archive and, even, access to a series of bibliographic resources resulting from the work carried out by the research team.
