[Anna Maria Maiolino: artistic project under development]
This book investigates the development of Anna Maria Maiolino’s great poetic project from a processual perspective. Throughout this project, a path is traced through the various dimensions of the work, connecting the different languages that constitute its artistic production. Using a significant amount of influences, languages and creative procedures, Maiolino’s artwork is a starting point to reflect on contemporary experimentation, departing from the complex relationship between process and artwork.
The Italian-Brazilian artist Anna Maria Maiolino has been producing, over six decades, a multiple, diverse work that ignores boundaries between means of expression or demarcations of territory. Her poetic project is marked by the intersection of influences, languages, and creation procedures – such as films, photographs, drawings, sculptures, installations, sound pieces, performances, writings, etc. – which highlight the complexity and the various layers of her artistic making.
In this book, we offer a view of her creative process in order to highlight the lines of force that govern the construction of her artwork and poetic activity. Thus, reflections on her artistic work are woven through the study of a diversity of writings and documents of her creation process. When analysing the set of her visual production, one can notice the recurrence of certain signs, forms, and themes which recollect in different materialities, as the artist communicates the vital links of her work. These images compose an indivisible unit that comprises her signature, that is, her singular features.
