[Digital citizenship and contemporary cultures]
Contemporary society, mediated by technology, offers an unprecedented environment for people to express themselves, come together and participate, opening up new opportunities to improve access and inclusion, which underpin the culture of democracy. The digital environment is favorable for democratic processes and practices, including the dissemination and mediation of information, and is an important enabler of intercultural dialogue through social platforms and networks. However, at the same time as citizens are faced with new opportunities, there are many challenges to be faced when it comes to exercising the rights and duties of social, cultural, economic and political participation.
This book was organized from papers presented and discussed at the II Congress of the National Network in Cultural Studies (RNEC), which took place at the University of Algarve in April 2023, organized by the Centre for Research in Arts and Communication and the School of Education and Communication.
