The exhibition is part of a curatorial project focused on the artistic and cultural Modernism of the Algarve in the first decades of the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>7 February<\/strong>, at <strong>3:00 pm<\/strong>, the <strong>Municipal Museum of Faro<\/strong> will host the round table <strong>\u201cModernism and Regionalism\u201d<\/strong>, an initiative that proposes debate and reflection on the multifaceted and controversial figure of Jos\u00e9 Dias Sancho, as well as on the artistic and cultural context of the Algarve in the early 20th century and on the exhibition-making process itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The round table will feature <strong>Raquel Henriques da Silva, Fernando Rosa Dias, Vasco Rosa, S\u00edlvia Quinteiro, and Joana Galr\u00e3o<\/strong>, and will be moderated by <strong>Marco Lopes<\/strong>. Among the participants, <strong>CIAC researcher S\u00edlvia Quinteiro<\/strong>, coordinator of the <strong>Literature and Tourism Working Group<\/strong>, is one of the scholars responsible for deepening the study of Jos\u00e9 Dias Sancho\u2019s literary work. The initiative also includes a <strong>guided tour of the exhibition<\/strong> led by the curator <strong>Fernando Rosa Dias<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in <strong>S\u00e3o Br\u00e1s de Alportel<\/strong>, Jos\u00e9 Dias Sancho established himself as a central figure of <strong>Algarvian Modernism<\/strong>, developing his activity between his hometown, <strong>Faro, Olh\u00e3o, and Lisbon<\/strong>. A caricaturist, journalist, art critic, writer, and filmmaker, he was an active cultural agent and a keen polemicist, simultaneously advocating <strong>Regionalism<\/strong> and the assertion of artistic modernity in the Algarve. The exhibition offers an integrated reading of these multiple facets, outlining an artistic and cultural biography marked by strong ties to the country\u2019s major cultural centres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scientifically curated by <strong>Fernando Rosa Dias<\/strong> (Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon) and with executive curation by <strong>Joana Galr\u00e3o<\/strong>, who holds a Master\u2019s degree in Curatorship from the same institution, the exhibition brings together a unique set of works from private collectors, galleries, and public institutions, many of which are being shown for the first time in Faro and in the Algarve. Highlights include unpublished caricatures of Algarvian figures, rarely exhibited works by artists such as <strong>Carlos Porf\u00edrio, Raul Carneiro, Eduardo Viana, M\u00e1rio Eloy, Jorge Barradas, and Ant\u00f3nio Ferro<\/strong>, as well as artistic dialogues that reveal affinities between Jos\u00e9 Dias Sancho and the Algarvian and national cultural landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The author\u2019s <strong>literary work<\/strong> occupies a central place in the exhibition, benefiting from the research carried out by <strong>S\u00edlvia Quinteiro<\/strong> and <strong>Maria Jos\u00e9 Marques<\/strong>, within the framework of a partnership between the <strong>University of Algarve<\/strong> and the <strong>municipality of S\u00e3o Br\u00e1s de Alportel<\/strong>, alongside the valorisation of his artistic production and his connections to theatre and cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After its presentation at the <strong>Municipal Museum of Faro<\/strong>, the exhibition project will travel to the <strong>Museu Bordalo Pinheiro<\/strong>, in Lisbon, concluding its tour at the <strong>Museu do Trajo<\/strong>, in <strong>S\u00e3o Br\u00e1s de Alportel<\/strong>, the birthplace of
