Organized by the Film Studies Working Group of CIAC \u2013 Centre for Research in Arts and Communication, the event establishes itself as a space for reflection and exchange, highlighting the renewal of approaches to film studies through the articulation of historical, methodological, and interdisciplinary perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program highlights the conceptual diversity of the field, addressing topics such as film exhibition and reception, censorship, audiovisual heritage, and intermedial practices. The presentations converge in analyzing the materialities of cinema, sociocultural contexts, and aesthetic and technological transformations, reaffirming cinema as a central object for understanding constantly evolving cultural processes and emphasizing the importance of innovative methodologies in the analysis of moving images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the highlights of the event are keynote lectures by Daniel Biltereyst, professor at Ghent University and one of the leading figures in New Cinema History, and lawyer \u00c1gatha Bulha. Daniel Biltereyst will address new directions in film history, advocating for multiscalar and polycentric perspectives that integrate diverse methods and sources to better understand cinema\u2019s social embeddedness. Meanwhile, \u00c1gatha Bulha will reflect on the challenges that artificial intelligence poses to creativity and copyright in the film sector, discussing the legal implications of using generative technologies in audiovisual production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The colloquium will also feature contributions from invited researchers exploring a wide range of topics, from early 20th-century film posters to the presence and censorship of Alain Delon in Portugal between 1968 and 1974, as well as representations of identity in Mediterranean cinema and the aesthetics of Dario Argento\u2019s films. Transnational issues in film editing will also be addressed, alongside the role of music in representing cultural conflicts in contemporary comedies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the panel dedicated to Film History: Images, Materialities and Heritage, discussions will focus on the preservation and study of cinematic heritage, including the rehabilitation of modern cinema theaters in Porto, the use of digital audiovisual objects as research sources, and the challenges of preserving materials from Iberian silent cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program also includes a special session featuring a screening of the film <em>Mediterraneo<\/em> (1991), directed by Gabriele Salvatores, winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative is supported by several academic and cultural institutions, including the School of Theatre and Cinema, Cinema S\u00e3o Jorge, CITCEM, the Italian Cultural Institute, FLUP, and Festa do Cinema Italiano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a broad scientific, organizational, and communications team, the 4th International Colloquium <em>Cinemas of the Mediterranean<\/em> reinforces its role as a privileged space for research and debate on
