Therefore, next Wednesday, between 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM, Rui Sanches will give an open lecture aimed at the entire University of Algarve community, with a special focus on Visual Arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference will take place in auditorium 0.4 of the Pedagogical Complex at the Penha Campus, followed by a Porto d&#8217;Honra. Also on this day, at 6:00 PM, an exhibition of his work will be inaugurated at the Municipal Gallery Trem &#8211; Manuel Baptista. Some of Rui Sanches&#8217; works will be on display from April 24th until June 12th, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rui Sanches studied at the Ar.Co &#8211; Center for Art and Visual Communication, received his BA from Goldsmiths&#8217; College (London, 1980), his MFA from Yale University (New Haven, 1982), and holds a PhD from the University of Algarve (2017), where he was a guest professor before retiring in the academic year 2022\/23. In 1984, he exhibited his work for the first time at the Modern Art Gallery of SNBA and at the Diferen\u00e7a Gallery in Lisbon. Since then, he has held over forty solo exhibitions, including the &#8220;Rui Sanches. Retrospective&#8221; exhibition at CAM of the F. C. Gulbenkian (2001); the &#8220;MUSEUM&#8221; exhibition at the National Museum of Ancient Art (2008); and &#8220;Espelho\/Mirror&#8221; at the Berardo Collection Museum and Torre\u00e3o Nascente of Cordoaria Nacional (2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has participated in dozens of group exhibitions, both in Portugal and abroad. His work is represented in major Portuguese public collections and several foreign collections, including: Gulbenkian Museum; Serralves Museum; Museum Van Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerp; Extremadura and Ibero-American Museum of Contemporary Art, Badajoz; EDP Foundation; Luso-American Foundation for Development; Collection of Caixa Geral de Dep\u00f3sitos; Mudas &#8211; Contemporary Art Museum of Madeira; Leal Rios Foundation; Berardo Collection, and Antonio Cachola Collection. He has several works in public spaces, including the &#8220;Colonnade&#8221; at the Assembly of the Republic; the Monument to Maria Jos\u00e9 Nogueira Pinto in Lisbon; and sculptures in Santo Tirso, Alcobendas (Spain), S\u00e3o Pedro do Sul, and the University of Algarve. In 2008, he was awarded the AICA-Ministry of Culture Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide
