{"id":8566,"date":"2024-09-02T11:52:46","date_gmt":"2024-09-02T10:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ciac.pt\/?p=8566"},"modified":"2024-09-04T11:00:53","modified_gmt":"2024-09-04T10:00:53","slug":"props-project-presents-publication-on-online-hate-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ciac.pt\/en\/news\/props-project-presents-publication-on-online-hate-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"PROPS project presents publication on online hate speech"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignwide\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ciac.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Capa_page-0001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/ciac.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Capa_page-0001.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8551 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 875px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 875\/1241;width:auto;height:300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-post-title\">PROPS project presents publication on online hate speech<\/h1>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-post-date has-text-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color\"><time datetime=\"2024-09-02T11:52:46+01:00\">02\/09\/2024<\/time><\/div>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-white-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-white-background-color has-background\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0project <a href=\"https:\/\/props.ciac.pt\/en\/\"><em><strong>PROPS \u2013 Interactive Narratives Propose Pluralistic Discourse<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, by the Research Center for Arts and Communication (CIAC), has just published the e-book<em><strong> Interactive Narratives Propose Speech: Results of a project aimed at researching and countering online hate speech in video games<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This publication is the culmination of a project that is now coming to an end, and which focused on the problem of hate speech online, specifically among young people in video game communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this e-book, the various <strong><em>PROPS<\/em><\/strong> researchers have had the opportunity to share some of the knowledge generated in the course of this project, namely a bibliographical study around online hate speech, the analysis of data collected from a survey of 189 students and three focus groups in primary and secondary schools in the Algarve region, and the presentation of six interactive counter-narratives that serve as teaching resources to explore the various themes of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, there was space for two texts dealing with the role of creative processes as a literacy tool and video games as a tool for teaching resilience philosophy in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The e-book was organized by researchers Bruno Mendes da Silva and Ana Filipa Martins, coordinators of <em><strong>PROPS<\/strong><\/em>, a project that worked in the area of media prevention and education and aimed to create tools that motivate teachers and students to reflect on and discuss hate speech online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The publication  <em><strong>Interactive Narratives Propose Pluralist Speech<\/strong><\/em>, from CIAC editions, is available in open access (<a href=\"https:\/\/ciac.pt\/publicacoes\/interactive-narratives-propose-pluralist-speech\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/ciac.pt\/publicacoes\/interactive-narratives-propose-pluralist-speech\/\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator alignwide has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide separador-mais-info\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>The books published in the CIAC Editions are the result of the scientific production developed at the Research Center by the various research groups.
