Mirian Tavares and Ana Isabel Soares publish essays in the book \u2018Um Olhar Portugu\u00eas \u2014 Cinema e Natureza no S\u00e9culo XXI\u2019<\/h1>\n\n

The book \u2018Um Olhar Portugu\u00eas \u2014 Cinema e Natureza no S\u00e9culo XXI\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/a> [A Portuguese Look \u2014 Cinema and Nature in the 21st Century], organised by Filipa Ros\u00e1rio and Jos\u00e9 Duarte, received two essays written by CIAC researchers, \u2018Alentejo, Alentejo (S\u00e9rgio Tr\u00e9faut, 2014)\u2019, by Mirian Tavares, and \u2018Lisbon Revisited (Edgar P\u00eara, 2014)\u2019, by Ana Isabel Soares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“How does contemporary Portuguese cinema represent nature? What motifs from the natural world animate Portuguese films released since 2000? What narrative, conceptual and aesthetic forces does our recent cinema find in this independent, continuous and simultaneous manifestation of life, that is, of its physical phenomena and beings?” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These were the questions that motivated the organisation of this volume, which takes a panoramic look at more than forty films made by Portuguese filmmakers in the 21st century, thus proposing a mapping of recent Portuguese cinema in the light of the idea of (physical) nature as a function of culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
