The cycle Herético e Libertário in tribute to Vítor Reia-Baptista, brings to the University of Algarve the revolutionary cinema of the post-25th of April

The cycle Herético e Libertário, in honor of Professor and Researcher Vítor Reia-Baptista, to run until January 2020, continues in May with a special program prepared by the Degree in Communication Sciences of the School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve in collaboration with the Cineclube and the Center for Research in Arts and Communication.

On the 15th of May we will have the opportunity to watch the linear version of the film “Cadavre Exquis” by Bruno Mendes da Silva, who has Vítor Reia-Baptista as one of the scriptwriters and as voice-off of the movie. In the same afternoon we will also be able to watch the film “Herdade do Zambujal”, made in 1975 by Reia-Baptista himself, together with Manuel Bento, about the revolutionary process, which shows the occupation of the Herdade do Zambujal by workers who intend to reactivate agricultural production and set up a school for their children. The session will be moderated by Professor Bruno Silva.

On the 22th of May, the Communication Sciences course proposes the visualization of some of the editions of the “National Cinematographic Journal”, of the Cinematographic Production Unit No. 1 of the Instituto Português de Cinema, an up-and-coming newspaper produced between 1975 and 1977 with the collaboration of Vítor Reia-Baptista as a production assistant, followed by the documentary “The Pervert’s Guide to Cinema” by Sophie Fiennes with Slavoj Zizek, which analyzes a series of films. This sessions will be moderated by Professor Filipa Cerol Martins.

These two sessions, which take the form of open lectures, take place at the Paulo Freire Amphitheater, at the School of Communication and Education, Campus da Penha, at 2:30 p.m. , and count on the support of ANIM – Film and Video Archive of the Cinemateca Portuguesa.

The entrance is free.
