JEAN PAUL BUCCHIERI STAGES OPERA AT CALOUSTE GULBENKIAN FOUNDATION
On November 17 and 18, 2022, CIAC researcher and theater director Jean Paul Bucchieri presents the Opera Don Giovanni, at Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s auditorium, in Lisbon.
The opera is based on the play ‘Don Giovanni ou O dissoluto absolvido’ [Don Giovanni or the Absolved Dissolute], written by the Nobel Prize in Literature, José Saramago. The play was written based on a question that moves the whole narrative. Taking Mozart’s opera “Il dissoluto punito, ossia il Don Giovanni” as his starting point, Saramago questioned: “What if Don Giovanni hadn’t gone to Hell?” He then imagined that Seville’s great seducer (immortalized by Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte) would not have been condemned for his actions, questioning the power of moral judgment. In this stage version, Mozart’s music and Saramago’s play converge in an original staging by Jean Paul Bucchieri with musical direction by Nuno Coelho.
Ticket prices range from €18.00 to €30.00 and can be purchased here.
