CYCLE OF VISUAL ARTS

NUNO VIEGAS IS THE NEXT GUEST OF THE CYCLE OF VISUAL ARTS

On March 30, at 5 pm, CIAC and the University of Algarve promote a lecture with urban artist Nuno Viegas. Integrated in the Cycle of Visual Arts, the session takes place at the Amphitheatre 0.4 of the Penha Campus and admission is free.

Nuno Viegas, also known as Metis, presents in his works a contrast between the visually aggressive and sometimes dirty reality of traditional graffiti, with a peaceful and clean representation. The approach to this theme is an ongoing tribute to all those who dedicate part of their lives to this movement (Graffiti Writers) and who keep the movement alive at a time when the definition of graffiti tends to be confused with street art.

Founder of the Policromia Crew collective, Nuno Viegas began his artistic journey through graffiti in 1999. After finishing his studies in Visual Arts at the University of Algarve, he moved to Rotterdam (Netherlands), discovered a new artistic identity and began to develop his paintings, strongly influenced by the graffiti movement. This has been the focal point of his artistic production and his greatest source of inspiration. In 2016, he worked with Street Art Today in Amsterdam, which launched him into the urban art scene and caught the attention of Urban Nation Berlin – Museum of Contemporary Urban Art. In the following years, the artist worked with Yasha Young Projects, Graffiti Prints, Thinkspace Gallery, among other prominent names in the urban art scene. Currently, his work expands to walls and art spaces all over the world.

Promoted by CIAC and FCT, the Cycle of Visual Arts  is organized by the Visual Arts Degree, from the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, University of Algarve.
